Socket for CHT Sensor (Cylinder Head Temperature) Removal

FYI..

I'm WAS having a hard time finding a Socket that will go over and be long enough to work over the connector.. I understood that a 19mm or 3/4 Socket would work, but I could not find a socket deep enough that allowed for the Plastic Connector Socket.
Went to Oreillys. Auto z..Adv Auto, Car quest, a local Auto Repair shop, Sears etc and i could find nothing. I Finally found via a neighbor, an older style Craftsman Socket and it works fine..

MY Symptoms that lead me to believe its a CHT issue:
- Service Engine Soon light - Code P1289 (CEL)
- Engine Light on Solid,
- Sporadic/Intermittent Temp gauge dropping off to left with no readings (Sometimes, it works fine.. car running fine, then, RPM's boost a bit, Temp gauge stops working , Temp Gauge Goes immediately to left and AC stops working)
- AC Not working when Temp Gauge drops
- Also noticed this happened once when a Bump was hit while driving
- Car Bucking *thought it might be a Transmission issue for a Bit.

Tks..

Good info, thanks

Check with neighbors first, lol

Yes finding deep sockets can be a pain now a days, and hard to get just one, everything is in "sets" now, and not deep enough

Solution

I too had trouble finding a deep socket to fit over the temp sensor. After searching far and wide throughout multiple hardware stores and auto supply shops I finally came across one that works perfectly. It's a 1/2" 19mm Duralast deep socket and they sell this brand of sockets at Autozone. It can be bought individually for around $5.

Worked like a charm. Hope this helps others in the future.

Any deep 19mm socket should work. I used a socket from a 1/2 in drive impact "black oxide" socket set and I had zero issues.

When installing the new one, make sure you tighten the sensor using the HEADof the ratchet ONLY.

The sensor is vey light, very thin, and does NOT need to be tightened much more over than snugged.
