Why does Ford do this?

One of the PCV hoses on my truck was looking really rough. It was just about split and it may have already split all the way in some spots. It was really dry rotted in one of the bends too. All of the other hoses under the hood look brand new, so I don't know why just that one went bad. I went ahead and threw some heater hose on there, but decided to go to the dealer for the right hose since heater hose won't last very long as PCV hose. The tiny little dealer here didn't have it and said they could order it for $20! I said no and went to parts stores. Nobody had generic PCV hose in the right size...the hose I need to replace is close to 15/32s in size, which is unusual for PCV hose, but Thermoid does make it. I looked online and generic PCV hose gets expensive when you add in shipping, so I decided to order it online from another local dealer. They will probably drag their feet, but I want the right part. With the hundreds of thousands of 2.5L Rangers out there, it seems like Ford would make this hose fairly easy to get since hoses do fall apart, but they don't. It's hard as hell and expensive to get considering it is only 8" of hose with no fittings on it! The truck won't run right or pass emissions without it though, so I need to get it.

I'll have to look for some...none of the parts stores around here had anything but heater hose in that size. There is a dealer a little ways from here that gives me small stuff for free, so maybe they will have some fuel line.

Gases from the valvetrain go through it to the PCV valve to be burned off in the engine. The heater hose won't work for too long because it isn't designed to stand up to oil...just coolant.

I doubt it would cause overheating, probably just rough idle and stalling.
