Last tank I got 12mpg. Good thing is I'm going to go look at a civic. That will get me 3x the gas mileage. It's terrible, I can't believe how bad it is. My dad's 4.0 ranger got 14mpg last tank and thats with 360lbs of sand (6 tube sands) and the ice...

Awful. Something must be very wrong. I get 14-15 minimum with 35" tires, tons of extra weight, a lift, etc.

I have the 3.0 also.

I usually get around 15 mixed driving. Hell, F150's w/ the 5.4 get the same if not better! But 12 seems too low...

Well, it's roughly 12, maybe 13 cause I added $10 of gas a few weeks ago and figgured that's about 4 gallons. The way I drove on that tank might have a little to do with it though. Also a slight exhaust leak just after the cat where it connects to the rest of the pipe and my rear tires were slightly deflated to help on the snow/ice we've had the past week and a half. Don't get me wrong, I love the truck, Fords, and Rangers, just the gas mileage and I only make about $30-50 a week, none last weekend cause the ice and ill get about $10 for this weekend cause I barely worked.

You can't measure MPG that way! Fill the tank, zero the trip odometer and drive it until it needs a lot of fuel then fill it again. The miles on the trip odometer divided by the gallons you just put in is your MPG.

You actually have no idea what your MPG is, lol.

That having been said, if it's a budget breaker, no matter what the mileage, it may be time for a change.

No, I know how to figgure mpg. I put in 13.25 gallons. Added the 4 gallons from a few weeks ago and I didn't reset the trip after the 4 gallons. So that's 17.25 gallons, I divided the 200.4 miles I had on that gas by 17.25. I know my stuff man.

Nothin, Haven't need to replace anything. Air filter was clean when I got it, it needed an oil change so I did that. Also welded up the foot long crack after the cat before the glass pack. Other than that I've replaced nothin.

Just want to say that low tire pressure does not help for snow. Hard tires dig in as opposed to float and spin, your goal is to dig down to the pavement, not float. Pumping the tires to normal will help, as will a basic tune-up.

But hey with the civic you can turn your truck into a project truck.

Well, Technically I didn't deflate my tires at all. They did it all on their own haha. I think they have slow leaks. They are now all inflated in between 30 and 35psi (max)

that still wont get accurate measurements on your mpg.

this thread is a waste unless you do it right.

I bet if you havent done anything to it, you need to give it a full tune up. I have a 92 bonneville as a beater that I bought from my brother for 250 buck and it was a total mess, the mileage was between 9 and 10. I put a high mileage synthetic blend oil in it, changed plugs, wires, fuel filter and o2, replaced my clogged cat and seafoamed the top of the engine. my mileage is at a steady 20 with a 15 year old car that has 196K on it. I also agree with others, you can NOT measure MPG the way you are doing it. It must be low, to full......

i do about that as well. hell, to the .10 gallon even. the worst ive gotten recently was about 18.8 because i did alot of street driving recently. usually its about 20.5. i have about 28.5K miles on it.

im sure the 12mpg is showing a bad need for a tune up and some maintenance.
