1993 Ranger 4x2 manual transmission

Hi all,

Welcome to the forum

Nice looking 1993 Ranger, almost 30 years old

1991(first year for 3.0l) to 1997 3.0l M5OD-R1 from 2wd Ranger or Mazda B3000 can be used, B3000 first year was 1994

M5OD-R1(M5R1) is the model but NOT what engine it fits on, each M5R1 case was made for a specific engine, M5R1 was used with 4.0l/2.9l, 3.0l and 2.3l in those years, none are interchangeable by engine size

And of course 2WD as the 4x4 trans bolted to transfer case so is different

1991-1997 has the Speedometer hookup/outlet on the tail shaft, that was dropped in 1998 and up Rangers/Mazdas

M5R1 uses ATF, yes automatic transmission fluid in a manual trans, so just a heads up, Mercon V was spec, 2.8 quarts bone dry

M5R1 has 3 rubber plugs on the rear of shifter housing, these will dry out and crack, and then leak a bit, so inspect and replace as needed

Its usually a good idea to change the rear main seal on any engine when transmission is off

car-part.com is a good place to look for local(zipcode) used parts

If the transmission is rebuildable I can go through it for you, you'd have to send it to me but it's an option

Confirming bad tranny

Tranny was dry
😬

Not sure why the speed sensor is tapped?

Not sure if this is an upgrade from previous owner?

The M5R1 transmission used ATF not gear oil so should have seen RED fluid, but dry is dry

Speed sensor may have been tapped for add-on Cruise Control

In a 1993 manual Ranger I am sure the clutch disc and slave have been changed several times

Just as a heads up, you should use Self Adjusting(SAC) Pressure plate in Rangers less likely to have issue with air in the system as these are more forgiving
