1998 3.0 leaking coolant at head

I have a 1998 Ranger with a 3.0 and it's leaking coolant pretty good right behind the alternator. I took off the alternator and bracket but still can't see exactly where the leak is except looks to be at the gasket. When this happens do you guys typically see that the head is ok and a new gasket fixes it? I know each situation is different but I was hoping someone might know if it's a common problem.

My '99 3.0 was leaking coolant from what sounds like a similar location. I decided it might be from the base of the water pump. I tightened a water pump bolt that was close to the leak, and the leak stopped. I was prepared to tighten them all if necessary as the bolt took nearly a half turn to feel tight.

Did you check the seam at the water pump? Or the seam where the timing cover meets the block?
