Pull the cap on the camshaft sensor check the upper bushing for wear, add a few drops of oil if it looks ok, i replaced mine few years back, every 10k i add a few drops of oil.....if you decide to pull the timing cover the chain will have some stretch in it, good time to replace..

Get a Ford water pump, the aftermarket ones are hit or miss, they may last for years or fail just outside the warranty.
Sometimes they fail with in the warranty, but then you have to do it all over again.

When removing the timing cover, don't damage the oil pan gasket.

Don't forget the front crank seal if you do the timing cover.

Thanks for this info!

How do I know what the wear is?
It has 165k miles. Is it good to replace now?

..... There is a brass bushing in the top and it does not always get the lube.....but at 165k ? pull the black cover 2 screws .. use two small screwdrivers and see if there is any free play in the rotor at the top, you can also use your fingers... if no wear dont replace

Cool. Thanks!

Also have a question on head bolts. I ordered the Felpro ES 72174 Head bolts. Are these the TTY or normal? I didn't know there was a difference until after I ordered them and was looking for torque specs!

1999 is right around when Ford changed to TTY bolts, but it will be very obvious when you tear in to yours.
The normal bolts are bigger and shorter when compared to the TTY bolts.

On my 99 my threads were recessed into the block like it says in my link, but it was not threaded for TTY bolts.
I did get the TTY bolts but they were too small and too long.

The bolts I ordered are TTY. They are the same as what I pulled out. Just waiting on the heads to show up and it's all ready for re-assembly!
