200 miles to a tank?

I was wondering if 200 miles pure tank is normal. I just got my ranger the beginning of this week and already I have put about 280 miles on it and a tank and a half of gas? It seems like its chugging gas on me. Also itís an auto 3.0L 1998 with 250 000 miles on it and I usually donít let it go above 3000rpm unless necessary. I also just installed a K&N cone on it last night to so Iím just wondering.

Thanks, Cam

Mine can easily get 200 to a tank if im not careful (2000 3.0). With that many miles there are probably some maintenance things that will improve gas milleage. Fuel filter, oil change, spark plugs and wires, etc.

on a good day on pure highway I can get over 400 btw

If it's an extended cab, you've got a 19.5gal tank... I can usually get atleast 300 miles out of a tank. You may be in need of a good tune up..

Wow man, what size tank, I get 300 per (granted it's a diff motor) but I can't see getting 200. When I have cars drinking like that, they better be in the 11's.

I used to get 200 with my 4.0 and I was on 33's. I would think a smaller engine would mean better milage.

I get around 240 miles per tank. It stays right around there no matter how I drive. Most of the time I am wide open but then again I do 90+ on the highway and accelerate hard all the time. Oh yeah, I have the SOHC and 4:10's

I get about 290 miles to a tank mixed driving. I don't really drive highway that much though. I think I put like 17 gallons in when I let it get that low. Normally I fill up at 1/4 tank and have about 215 miles on it.

I also get about 200 a tank. Its gotten better since Ive done the air box mod and running a k&n direct replacement. Its a 5spd. The best Ive been able to get is 270, and that is going back and forth to school, 3 hour drive, dont know mileage. Ive also been able to get the mileage down to 180, thats with offroading, and giving truck a lot of gas. it all depends on how you drive it, if you drive it like a grandma, you'll do fine. but if you drive it like a teenager, you'll do worse. It doesnt help that its a 3.0 auto and has a hard time getting out of its own way either. The 5spd is a hole lot quicker, so I can shift at 2500 rpms

My gas light goes on at about 225 miles or so.... so granted that your engine has 250,000 miles I don't see that as horrible. As someone else suggested you should do a tune-up regardless.

I will say this yet again: miles per tank is the least accurate way to measure your mileage because of tank size and where everybody decides to refill.

If you don't take the time to measure miles per gallon, you are actually pretty much wasting everyone's time. Not trying to be nasty here -- but that's the facts. You're not MEASURING anything because everybodies using a different ruler, lol.

Measure your MPG and then repost.

Also, what size tires are you using and are they bigger than the stock 27" tires that probably came on that truck originally?

dude I just noticed your canadian ...just down the 400 from me actually ... do you mean 200 km's and 250000 km's for milage ? miles and kilometers are way different. 1 mile = 1.6 km's

cuz if your talkin km's your telling us you only get 125 miles per tankful wich Im pretty sure is god dammmmmmmm awful.
