2000 3.0 overheating
2000 3.0 overheating
i got a 3.0 5 speed that at hiway speed temp is normal. at under 2000 rpms it starts to overheat. flushed the radiator twice, looked like rust.no help. then replaced thermostat, radiator cap. no help.replaced radiator no help. heater blows cold.... give me some direction to diy water pump replacement.... seems that maybe next...
If the heater blows cold and its overheating and you made mention of rust color out the radiator, it could be the water pump or just as simple as a clogged hose. Before you spend money on a new pump, just take all the hoses off and see if one is clogged. Its worth a shot and might save you money. Mine overheated when I first got it. But i took the rad to a shop and they said it was something like 75-80% clogged up. Acid flush and it was good to go. I do recall the rust color and the horrible smell. Yuk, lol
Buy a Haynes manual and it will have the info to change the water pump .
Also you should remove the lower radiator hose and check it for any cracks on the inside. They can separate inside and block coolant flow.

its pretty straight forward,
- remove the fan and the shroud
- remove the serp belt
- disconnect all of the hoses
- i believe there is 12 bolts that need to be removed(make note which goes where)
for the install, basicly the reverse order
-torque the bolts to 75-106 inlbs
