2000 3.0L engine oil pressure gauge
2000 3.0L engine oil pressure gauge
I was going to take the trash off the other day, I got about 50 yards from the house, and looked down to see the oil gauge all the way to the left, at the same time, I saw the light that said check gauge. About time I saw it, it shot up to normal and I went on and came back with no issue. I forgot about it until the next day, when I went to crank it, I could barely see it move when I turned the key just enough for the dash stuff to come on, when I cranked it, it didn't budge. I turned it off, and cranked it again, it didn't move, I pressed the gas a little, and nothing, so I turned it off. I had checked my oil, it was about a half a quart low, that was it. Now I am afraid to keep trying to crank it, but it doesn't seem like it isn't getting oil, no ticking or anything. I am no mechanic much, and my age and physical condition (some back problems) prevents me from doing much, also a lack of tools. Last time I change the oil, I was sore for a couple days afterward...lol How can I check it to know if it's the gauge of something else? I pm'd a guy I know (not real well) that is a mobile mechanic, but he hasn't responded back.
My oil gage was failing with similar symptoms. I came to a stop light and looked down and the oil pressure had dropped, once I started driving it came back up again. This lasted a couple of days of working and not working. I purchased a Motorcraft replacement oil sending sensor and that issue went away. The sender is located in the back of the block near the firewall on the passenger side. Therefore, as you stated you have a lack of tools and being in an awkward position you may want to have someone change that for you. It was not vey expensive and a good start for diagnosis.
