2000 Fkex 3.0 Ranger fuel leak ordeal
2000 Fkex 3.0 Ranger fuel leak ordeal
2000 3.0 Flex Fuel fuel leak
Smelled gas, seen it was leaking, parked truck. Isolated the problem to a pin hole in the 90 degree connector on top of the fuel pump. Simple fix right lol. Researched and found Ford fuel connectors blow. Since the leak was in the elbow I was able to eventually get it off after removing the U shaped plastic clip. The connector was not the one that required a tool. As it is typical that a simple fix becomes a nightmare. The clip of course broke and I traced the line to the filter. It was the inside line going into the filter. The line closest the the drivers side of the vehicle. I’ve put 80,000 on the truck bringing it to 195,000. The truck is important to me as my biological father that I found 17 years ago gave it to me. Looking at the fuel filer it was in need of replacement. Might as well do that in the process. Blindly pulling the line free was an exercise in frustration. After cutting the line, I got it off the fuel filter and the brackets holding it. I didn’t mess with the other 2 lines to the filter as one needs a the tool and other 1 has the U clip which I’ve broke two at this point. Much to my amazement outside the dealer you have the dorman kits. I’ve searched and searched and can’t figure out the kits I need. The pump outlet or inlet is the one with the plastic elbow, not the other two that have metal elbows. The filter of course is a straight connector. I can’t tell which kits I should get as I’m unsure of the size of the outlet/inlet on the pump and the filter. In addition since I cut the line the 18” of line with the kits will fall short a few inches. I can salvage that from the old line but the barbs to connect them have problematic reviews. I’d be out $45 locally. I can get the Ford part 7l5z-9b277-a for $70-90 shipped. Time is important and Ford isn’t like Amazon so shipping is a week or more out. If you have suggestions please share.

These are the fuel lines Dorman sells for 2000 Ranger: https://www.dormanproducts.com/gsear...%2520Connector
Rangers all use 5/16 nylon fuel lines
But............Ford used 5/16 AND 3/8 ends/connectors, depending on where its connected, I think that at the fuel tank there will be one 5/16 connector and one 3/8 connector so they don't get mixed up when replacing fuel pump
You are there we are not so only you can say which ones you need
And it is year specific because all years don't use 90deg connectors, it depends on how Ford was feeling that year, lol
And sometimes there is a mix, one 90 and one straight
And you can get just get the end you need if the original line is still long enough to add the new end after cutting the old one off
The new ends are installed by HEATING the 5/16 nylon fuel line in HOT water or with a heat gun/blow drier
The nylon will get soft so you can slide a new connector inside it, it will stretch, then once its cooled off it will hold tight

How do you get the connectors off the nylon line? heat gun also?
Also my fuel pump has the plastic nipples coming out and I have the 90 degree connectors for the send and return line. All the ones im seeing for sale online are steel to nylon fuel connectors. I can't find any plastic to nylon connectors. I'll post a link for reference of the steel to nylon.
