2000 flex engine different coil pack placement than 2001 flex engine
my 2000 flex ranger has 528k miles on it, orig motor and head gasket, got it with 60k on it, still runs good but needs new rear axle, decided to look for new used truck similar to that one...found and bought a 2001 w 225k on it and the door label says its a flex motor"V" in the vin # but the motor configuration is just alittle different than the 2000 by way of the coil pack on the 2001 is set more off to the side and on an angle whereas the coil pack on the 2000 is closer to the center of the motor and sitting horizontal with no angle lean...……..so ford changed the flex motor between 2000 and 2001 ? or is it the same motor but with different coil pack placement? what would be the details of that? also, the 2001 flex calls for 5w20 oil, the 2000 calls for 5w30, as far as I know. Ive always used 5w30 in the 2000 and im at 528k...ive also always put fuel injector cleaner in the tank about once a month for the life of those miles...im new to the group thanks for any info on the flex motor question

Welcome to the forum
Yes, the coil pack locations did change over the years, don't think it was related to Flex Fuel specifically
Flex fuel engines had different heads, larger injectors, different software in the PCM(engine computer) and some years had a Fuel Sensor, but that was dropped
Heads didn't matter, only the injector size and PCM mattered
Coil pack was the same for either., just different locations to fit when wiring harness changed year to year
Ford changes oil weighs year to year, lol, use what you want for your location, the w30 is better for higher mile engine
5 for winter if it gets cold where you live
10 for summer, or year round if it doesn't get below freezing temps much
