So my gals Ranger threw a rod today she has the flex fuel motor, would a non flex fuel motor work as a drop in?

 

Yes, 3.0l Vulcan engine from Ranger or Mazda B3000, 1991 to 2008

Taurus and Sable 3.0l use same engine but different head gaskets, so........grain of salt

If other engine is not Flex Fuel then you will need to change the fuel injectors, Flex Fuel computer is setup for larger injectors.

But you may want to change whole upper and lower intake from your 2003 to the other 3.0l in any case.
That way ALL the wiring will match up, which can make things much easier.
Ford changed connectors and locations ever year, so if you swap in a different year you most likely will run into a few differences, unless you swap intakes

 

Thanks RonD, I guess I posted in a panic, I'll search around and see what I can find, I wasn't sure what was interchangeable, I was thinking a 2003 flex fuel would be hard to find

 

Only difference that matters on the engine itself is the fuel injectors.

Wiring wise is when you want to swap intakes, which takes care of injectors and fuel line matchups
