3.0 to 4.0 swap

ok lets just say i got a 4.0 out of a 2000 ranger ahhh or explorer with transmission and everything wiring harness all the goods... how long do you think it would take to install this?

because dads going outta town for a week or two and im thinking about tackling this while hes gone lol maybe he wont notice if i get it done before he gets back...

ive already found a donor but would it matter if i used tranny and 4.0 out of a newer model ranger because im looking for something with less mileage..

well lets hear the opinions and ftw i dont want a v8... i just want that little extra power and the tranny strenth of the 5R55E for highway driving because my 3.0 and 4r44e cant handle long term driving on the interstate.. with 4.56 gears and 33's

ok opinions please

Might take you and a buddy a weekend with wiring diagrams and a good set of tools. Don't forget you need the computer as well.

In 01 they changed a few things around that would cause you problems. The truck started to get its speed signal at the tranny instead of the rear axle then. The guy to talk to would be Bob. He knows the electrical system like the back of his hand.

i donno about the sohc 4.0 but the motor mounts for the ohv 4.0 are almost the same as the 3.0 mounts. the drivers side is different because of the factory spacer its bolted to. if you cut that spacer apart you can unbolt it from the mount and bolt the mount directly to the frame in the same spot. at least for the 2wd ones.
