3.0 blown

i was getting ready to go to work and i was backing out of the driveway when the oil pressure dropped. hurried up and shut it off and wheeled it to the garage and poped the hood open and just thought it was a sensor. went and got a new one( drove a different car) , and installed it and started it up and heard clicking and clanking, well at this time i was thinknig it was the oil pump> i had a tow truck come and pick it up and they did a complete look at it and found out that the oil pump is bad, clyinder one has no compression and a few other internal parts are done with, and they said a new 3.0 was going to run around 4600 to have put in. my question is what should i do, find a 3.0 and install it, or just find a 302 and go from there?

Did the Cam Syncronizer gear shread itself and then cause it to lose oil pressure thats what my 98 did and caused it to lock the engine up due to no oil pressure.

Theres no way it will cost you to change the engine that much I had a junkyard engine with 30k out of an 02 put in my truck for 1200 and that included labor.

well if you have the $4600 then I'd say you have enough money to do a 302 swap. So I'd say do that.

If it was a stealership, $4600 wouldn't surprise me at all. Find a couple of local wrenchs and ask them for an estimate.

Blown 3.0 are a comon problem these days (It just happened to me) I just pulled the motor my self it's not to hard but at times a total pain in the butt.!). Found a new one with 70,000 on it for 800..I will be picking it up sat. and tossing it back it.. It is costing me under 1000 to do the hole job.. If your un sure of your self buy a Hayes book from auto zone . That have the walk through. tells you ever thing you need to do.

yeah i, had them look for an engine around me that might have my type of engine, they found a ton of 3.0 engines but they said some thing about how they olny made my motor for 2 months for my 99 and said finding one that matches is going to be a pain. i was wondering if it did not matter what the vin numbers said. and it ws not my synch. i had changed that about 2 months ago and i pulled that to make sure every thing was fine when i noticed that i had no oil pressure.

I say go with a 302, you'll be glad you did.
