3.0 engine surging at will
My Ranger 3.0 motor races at will some times when not pressing on the accelerator. I have read from other threads to check for vacuum leaks. There is a cannister behind the left headlight. It is about the size of a pint of whiskey but twice as thick. There are two large, matching caps on the top. There is a small round port with nothing attached. I also have a vacuum line on that side not attached. I assume the two go together. I don't even know what to call the thing so I can look for a part. All help is appreciated. There are also a torpedo looking device above the a/c box on the opposite side. It has a very small vacuum tube that goes to a Y with 2 other tubes. That line was broke. I taped it together with electrical tape but I guess as long as I am fixing things I should fix that line as well if I knew what to order. Thanks all.
I think that one thing is a carbon cannister. Line missing from that. The other hose is small (not as small as those vacuum hoses on top of the a/c) with a rubber splice on the end of it for what ever is supposed to be connected there.
