Can we get somebody to do the same with a stock 3.0? Auto? regular cab?

2004 3.0:
HP = 154 @ 5200 rpm

2004 4.0:
HP = 207 @ 5250 rpm
TQ = 238 @ 3000 rpm
that is a newer 3.0 vs. an aging 4.0 right there..........you would be lucky to get 53 HP/58 TQ out of a modified 3.0....with bolt on parts......now yes you can get into major custom internals.....

2000 3.0L : 150 hp @ 4750 rpm - 190 tq @ 3650 rpm
2000 4.0L : 160 hp @ 4200 rpm - 225 tq @ 2750 rpm
So the 3.0L would have to make up 10 hp and 35 tq. It wouldn't be hard.
- set of underdrive pulleys
- e-fan
- headers
- larger throttle body & MAF
- intake
- exhaust
- tuner/chip
All are simple bolt-ons. We could go even further and add roller rockers, port & polishing, and a cam.

Please refer to the above mods. A modded 3.0 is right there with the 4.0 OHV. And we haven't even started on the whipple which falls under "heavily modified" as it's forced induction.
Bottom Line - A 3.0 can beat a 4.0 OHV. It can't beat a SOHC unless it has forced induction or work on the internals.
It's a frickin' 4.0L in a Ranger people! Not a Lambo! To say/think that the 4.0 OHV is almighty or untouchable is rediculous. I find it rather funny.
P.S. If you would - please start clarifiy whether you are talking about the 4.0 OHV or SOHC. No one knows which you're talking about.

I have to agree that the 4.0L does have a lot more torque, but you see that it has that bunch more torque at like 2,500rpms. Do you even race in that rpm at all....no. I agree that the 4.0L OHV motor is a good motor (btw I'm taling OHV because I have a 96, the SOHC is a motor that is LOT more powerful I give it that) but it doesn't have the same kind of HP and torque cure, its got everything low end. The 3.0L engine doesn't even really do anything until 3,000rpms. IF someone could please provide a dyno chart for a 3.0L and a 4.0L OHV engine that would be helpful. Btw thank you for posting the video of the 4.0L OHV acceleration.

hah the 3.0L has been the EXACT same motor since it appeared in the 1986 Ford Taurus! As a matter of fact, the 3.0L Vulcan has been around longer than the 4.0L OHV. It never got renovations like the 3.8L OHV did in 1999 (up from 150hp to 190hp). The 3.0L got just a composite intake in 2002 but it actually lowered the hp to 148hp. So it hasnt changed in like 21 years, talk about 'aging engine' eh?

[QUOTE=lifted97ranger]a 4.0 doesn't weight but maybe 30# more than a 3.0.....not much different there pedro!...have you not read what was said above? TRUCK FOR TRUCK and DRIVER FOR DRIVER....SAME TRUCK DIFFERENT ENGINE and compareable driver abilities......the 4.0 will come out on top every time.
This thread wasnt started about truck for truck.. All i said was i beat a 4.0 ranger the other night and i have a 3.0. Of coarse truck for truck the more horsepower is gunna win theres no talk in that.. By the way whens the last time u pulled a 3.0 and a 4.0 and weighed them both. U havnt ur just talking **** it might not weigh much more but a bigger engine is most likely gunna be heavier.

idk its very possible that his truck did because stock vs. stock when i race my freinds 02 supercab auto 4x4 4.0 vs my 98 xlt supercab 2wd 3.0 i can run with him or even beat him on a good launch until around 60 or 70 dont doubt the little 3.0 with the right gearing it can be a good motor

As I've stated before I own a 2004 Edge with the 3.slow with a 5 speed which I purchased new & a 05 FX4. Maybe off the line it might be close because my FX4 is auto but thats about it. The FX4 even though its a bunch heavier would smoke the edge & not even breathe hard doing it.

I'm amazed there are people who seriously believe the 3.0 can compete with the 4.0 SOHC.
I have the honor of driving a 4.0 ranger to work, and periodically drive a 3.0 ranger for work, and drive the 4.0 back home. The 4.0 SOHC will dominate the 3.0 everytime.
I wonder if the mustang forums have threads like this where people argue the V6 mustang will beat the V8 mustang???

well comparing a SOHC to a OHV is just like comparing the 3.0L to the SOHC, it would dominate both engines. its newer and better tecnology. The 3.0L is still the same motor as it always has. No one is tryong to say that the 3.0L is going to dominate the 4.0L but everyone seems to make the 3.0L motor out to be a huge dog and while its not fast its still not as slow as some may think. I've got a 5 speed ranger and while I've never driven an auto 3.0L it still isn't that slow. Do you think that the 4.3L chevy engine is a good engine to compare it to. Up through 3rd gear I pull on my friends S-10 blazer(2dr, 5 speed manual, 4x4) and thats with one other person in his truck. After 3rd he pulls back up because he has a **** load more torque.

Ive never got a chance to really race him other than just fooling around at stoplights, but were always side by side when we do. He dont get past me and I dont get past him... Look at the weight difference though...
let me say it for you again: POWER TO WEIGHT RATIO....the only 4 words that prove my theory...

I agree, power to weight ratio. Like I said the weight difference is what helped me.... However, Ive drove ohv 4.0s, and they are nothing to brag about at all.... Not like the new ones. Infact theres a local hick that has a 96 reg cab ohv 4.0 5 speed, lifed with huge tires though. He messes with me all the time, I finally cought him at a stoplight which leads onto a highway, I beat him like it was aboustley nothing! Night and day difference, however his truck is just an old pos anyways. The tires are huge though, I mean way too big for the truck id say... and probably didnt regear it.
