I don't know, man. My 3 OH does a fairly good job. It always feels like a work horse with great torque down low. For a small V6, I'm quite happy with it.

But, then again, when it is over 95 degrees out, running the A/C, then the 3.slow just can't take it. Runs like a withered ol' man traveling in the desert with no water for miles.

And, for smaller V6, the gas mileage just stinks! And it ain't because I have an intake, modified MAF, 33" Mud Terrains and 4:10 gears either. After all those things, my mileage on dropped from 18.2 mpg's to 16.2...

I truly believe this engine's computer "fuel mapping" is programmed way out of line- first for true power and secondly for mileage. Somethin just ain't right the way it is set up. I know it can be better.

The Vulcan isn't a bad motor, it's just not a high tech motor. Plus it's not the newest kid on the block, and our trucks are not aerodynamical at all, at least compared the cars the motor was designed for by Yamaha. The motor was revised by Ford for low end torque, which usually trades off high end horsepower.

I'm not trying to stick up for the little 6'er, just say that it has it's purpose. I do wish ford would put the duratec motors in already.

I'm BACK!!

I would have loved to have had a 3.0L instead of my 4.0. Sadly Ford doesn't make an extended cab 4x4 w/ the 3.0, only the 4.0. I'm not in the least bit concerned w/ performance (that's what the bike is for) and would love to save whatever I can on gas. As long as it is enough to tow a small (<18') boat I'm good.. ..Now if they were to put in something even more effiecient, like a 2.5L turbo-diesel, then I'd prolly have looked for that!

supercab 4x4 with a 3.0l auto or 5spd manual, The engine works too hard for the weight and the extra power for 4x4!That makes it hard on gas!! The 4.0l on the supercab 4x4 is the way to go when keeping the right lead foot out of it while it's gets better gas milage than 3.0l and not to forget the extra power is there also!

Well if you drive like that movie that was posted recently, I'm not surprised! But all said and done the 3.0L should average slightly better mileage, all other things equal, than a 4.0L. It will also have lower emissions and such as well. Of course if you bolt a bunch of mods to it or do a lot of off-roading as well, your mileage will varry..

I like the 3.0 myself, only b/c it will keep me outta trouble! Mine might not get up and go like the 4.0s but it gets me from Point A to Point B just as the 4.0 would! haha...I'm not about speed anyways, just for offroad!

i WON at a truck show!!!!(pictures fixed)

I love my 3.0... may not be as powerful as the 4.0 (i would prolly kill myself with to much power and the way i drive lol), but it is a major step up for me going from the lil 96 2.3L to the 2000 3.0. I can chirp my tires pretty good too... so that makes me happy. lol All in all, i like it :D

I drove a red regular cab edge w/flames that was pretty much stock with the 3.0, and it seemed faster than mine. I guess the regular cab has less weight or something.

Yeah, I firmly believe that there are good ones and bad ones... my 2003 felt faster to me than my 2002 did, same setup, right down to the 4.10 gears. The 32" tires have slowed it down a little but my 3.slow still gets up and goes pretty good when I need it to. Jon, you need to get some 4.10s.

They don't? Thats weird, because I have one. Unless they stopped making them just recently like that.

You also can't get the 4.0L in a regular cab anymore, thats the reason I have a 3.0L; I really wanted a reg. cab.

What year is your truck? I was told they stopped w/ the 4x4 ex-cabed 3.0's around '01 or '02. I dunno details, but I know it wasn't an option when I went shopping. I almost went Toyota because of that. You can get an ex-cab 4x4 Taco w/ their friggin' 4-banger! (Although it's a dog.)

Right now it seems that displacement sells, or at least Ford thinks it does. Give it a year or so w/ the gas prices up and I think you'll see a change of heart.
