so i jsut picked up my 01 xlt. i havent had a car in quite some time. i used to be all into the tuner cars hondas and whatnot. i live close enough to work so i walk half the time until lately then i just ride my motorcycle. but i dont know if maybe its jsut me or not. but i drive this ranger every day now and if i floor it i think, is the floor mat stuck under the pedal? or is it really just a terd?
you have the heaviest version but not the biggest motor option. 1/4 mile times are probably 17's- 18's, compared to low 16's with a 4.0 in the same style truck as yours or the same (low 16's) for a single cab 3.0 manual.
My 3.0 is not fast -- but I can do a lot with it.
You can help it a lot: intake, maf change or mods, throttle body change or mods, exhaust, headers, roller rockers, cam, flash tuner -- in various combinations.
It's an old-school, fully cast iron, pushrod engine -- what's to be expected!
On the other hand, care for it and it will last forever...or at least it will seem like forever...
Seriously though, mines not getting changed out until it dies.

Can't underestimate these lil 3.0's, they get r done. :)
i had alot..., i tightened her up and she had some get up and go, nothin compared to my friends 4.0 but i ran 33's and 3.73 gears and it wen pretty good then, i like it but somedays i wish i had a bigger engine
Thats not true! I took care of mine very well and the oil pump went out at 50K miles and seized the engine.
lol and I had cam synchronizer self grenade at 117k and I took very good care of my engine!
