88 ranger 2.9 dumping to much fuel

88 ranger 2.9 dumping to much fuel

2.9 dumping to much fuel. New motor and replaced everything new before installing motor. All new injectors, plugs, wires, distributor and computer. Fuel pump in the tank and on frame rail and fuel regulator. Reset timing 3 times. Idles fine but when you give it gas it bogs down.

Could the timing chain be off and cause this. Wound it run if the timing chain was off 1 tooth.

From your description check MAP sensor and its vacuum hose
MAP sensor is often on the firewall, behind wiring harness, smaller black box with 3 wire connector and vacuum hose, check that vacuum hose is not cracked and is hooked up to upper intake
This sensor tells computer the load on the engine, so will cause bogging and hesitations if its not working right


All fuel injection computers have a Clear Flooded Engine mode, you can use this to test if an injector is leaking

Turn key on
Press gas pedal down to the floor all the way and hold it down, at 0 RPMs, and WOT(wide open throttle) computer will shut off injectors, Clear Flooded Engine mode

Now crank engine, it should just spin, it has spark but no fuel, if it fires then you have a leaking injector, or possibly a bad TPS(throttle position sensor)
When you release gas pedal injectors will start, or if engine fires and RPMs go above 400 then injectors will start

Thanks, I will try and test it tomorrow. I’m going to go ahead and change the throttle position sensor and oxygen sensor just to make sure. Already put 2 different map sensors on. Thanks for the help.

Make sure SPOUT connector got plugged back in after timing the spark, thats the "vacuum advance" for electronic ignitions, so bogging and hesitation without it

I think I did put it back on put I will check to make sure. Thanks for your help I sure do appreciate it. About to pull my hair out on this truck. Have way to much money in it to stop now.
