Hey newish to Rangers and discovered what seems to be a missing part on my cold air intake and need help identifying. Located behind throttle and has what appears to be refdish/orange silicone to plug hole. Picture below.

 

Looks like it is missing the EGR valve as well as the EGR tube assembly that goes to the exhaust and has the smaller tubes branched to plug in the DPFE sensor tubes.
Not sure the 94 had such things, so someone may have just put on a later model upper intake and blocked off the unneeded items.

 

would purchasing and adding this to the engine do any damage or improve anything ? And if so where can I find information on getting all of that hooked up, I’ve searched just about everywhere for information on the 3.0 and it seems to be rather nonexistent. You have the 3.0l Vulcan engine, used in Rangers from 1991 thru 2008
Also used in other Ford models, like the Taurus starting in 1986

EGR valve/system is for emissions requirements year to year and state to state, so depends on where a vehicle is first sold as to what emissions systems it has

In your picture you can see the DPFE sensor on the right with the 3 wire connector and looped hose
Because your wiring harness has that 3 wire connector then your engine should have an EGR system, but only if you have to pass "smog" tests

1994 used the EEC-IV OBD1 computer, last year for it, and your CEL(check engine light) should be on, if its working, CEL should come on with every key on and then go off after start up, then come on again if Codes have been set

So if you were to read the codes you would see EGR codes set because the EGR valve has been removed
Lack of EGR system can cause engine to ping/knock under acceleration, but thats about it
EGR system was added to lower NOx(toxic gas) production when engine is under load

There are several parts to the system
The EGR Valve, that would go where the block off plate is now
EGR Tube, it runs from EGR Valve to the Exhaust manifold on that side of the engine, its a metal tube with heat shield fabric on it, also has 2 hose connections for the 2 DPFE sensor hose ports

Working DPFE sensor, that one is most likely bad, they often need to be replaced every few years
Working EGR solenoid, vacuum valve in engine bay, operated by the computer, 2 wire connector

EGR system is, for the most part, power neutral, it can give better acceleration on Regular gas, as it reduces pinging, but really not a noticeable difference in most cases

If your engine is "pingy" that will cause engine damage, so back off the throttle, and look at restoring the EGR system
