94 3.0 coolant system problem
94 3.0 coolant system problem
Alright replaced radiator waterpump thermostat head and intake gaskets thermostat opens but seems like upper rad hose isn't completely filling with coolant haven't noticed any leaks or loss in radiator or overflow tank temp gauage will move slightly but isnt reading like it normally does engine isn't overheating after driving awhile check engine light comes on but goes away when truck gets shut off for a second then back on awhile later sometimes doesn't come on at all ive bleed system multiple times but I'm trying again tomorrow thinking possibke blockage any other solutions or things to try to find and fix problem and I've used radiator flush but didn't seem to help any good things to use to clear any blockages sorry for long paragraph
Pull off heater hoses from firewall
Use a garden hose to try and flush out the heater core, in both directions, make sure it has good flow both ways
If not replace heater core, it easy in a 1994 Ranger
If flow is good then leave heater hoses off and refill via rad cap opening until coolant starts to come out of both hoses, then hook hoses back up to heater core
All air is out now
And you should reverse heater hoses at the firewall every 2 years, when you change coolant, it helps keep heater core cleaner so it lasts longer
And any time you are refilling cooling system pull the heater hoses from firewall, it lets the air out of engine side, so no trapped air

Do you have the fan belt on correctly, does the fan blow air into the engine bay
On some engines you can put the fan belt on the wrong way and it will spin water pump and fan in reverse
There should be a belt diagram on the rad support
That would explain the over heating and collapsing upper hose
1994 Ranger 3.0l shouldn't have the heater hose bypass valve, a 4 hose connector with vacuum line attached
If you do have that then swap heater hoses back to where they were

One cause for a collapsing upper hose is a bad radiator cap. The cap is designed to allow the coolant to flow in and out of the overflow tank. If it is flowing out of the radiator but not able to flow back into it under a load like you are describing it may be the cap. It's as if it's trying to suck coolant back but with a bad cap it just collapses the hose instead.
