IMO it all depends on how long you want to keep it. What I do is amortize the cost of a rebuild over the length of time I think I'm going to keep it. That'll give you a monthly cost of ownership.
Also, a used tranny is hit and miss. Just depends on how well it was maintained and how many miles since new / rebuild.

Thinking about just tearing it down.
The problen is a full rebuild kit price still reverse somewhat but 3rd and forth ok before last event 1st and second shot like trying to ride a friction DRIVE otorized bike in THE RAIN.
It shot out all the fluid at 70 miles an hour made it to town but gave out uphill had to get towed 20 miles home.
Pretty sure the clutch packing and bands gotta go and i might be safer on 3rd and 4th gear.
The converter has got to be thrashed
