Need opinions from anyone who has rebuilt their 5R55E. Sorta in between a rock and a hard place and need to have the truck up and running in 2 weeks but dont have the $ to put it in the shop. Is a 5r55e rebuild possible to be accomplished by someone who knows alot about cars and has turned quite a few wrenches but never torn down a AT?

Yes.

Loads of videos and how-tos on rebuilding automatics, and many specific to the Ford 4R/5R models, same transmission, both are 4-speeds, the "5th gear" is a computer 2nd gear, 1st + OD turned on, so nothing to do with transmission internals
44E/55E difference was for higher torque of 4.0l engine, larger OD drum I think

Watch all the videos first to see what tools you may need to buy or rent

On ANY automatic rebuild always replace, forward one-way clutch and front pump with Ford pump, not 3rd party, also OD drum if out of round or damaged
Also replace torque converter
New valve body with shift kit and bonded separator plate

The trans was rebuilt about 2 and 1/2 years ago and then over hauled after the torque converter came apart about a year and 3 months ago. By a professional shop. The only reason im doing it now is i have a broken reverse band. My question is , do i still have to replace all those things? Or is there some that shouldnt be nessesary?
