Belt Squeeking!

Ok so i've read some posts about this and it says that its a common problem with the 3.0L's. Tensioner belt usually needs replacing and what not but i dont think thats my problem. ONLY WHEN IT RAINS is when my belt starts squeeking... Any fixes for this?? The belt feels tight and all the teeth look good. Just wondering if i need to lube up a pulley or do i need a new belt or should i just deal with the squeeking during wet weather? Thanks for the help!!

I have no experience with squeaking when wet, but I would replace the belt. I did quite a few expensive things before replacing my belt...I should have just replaced it first :)

hmmm damn fords haha I've never owned a vehicle where it sqeeked like this whenever it rains. its perfect and makes no noise when it doesn't rain. ill probably just go ahead and either replace the belt, im sure it needs it soon anyway or just buy the stop squeek crap from auto zone. any other ideas haha? thanks

the belt isn't bad it's just the connection between one of the pulleys. get some belt lube and it should be fixed. my buddy had the same problem and we got stuck while wheelin and the squeek went away!!, just go get stuck

I have a 3.0 and get the squeal when it rains. Tomorrow I bet it will squeak because it is going to rain tomorrow.

i dont even have to hit a puddle to get mine to squeak, the muggy south FL air will do it.

I had the same problem with my truck, it would squeal but only when it was wet out, we replaced the idler pulley which fixed the problem but only after we tried that belt dressing stuff and it didn't work, after doing reading on here and RPS I think the problem is that the bearings or whatever inside the pulleys just need to be lubricated.

Squealing in the rain is just the belt getting wet and slipping. All that is.

But it means your belt is on its way out. Replace it, along with the tensioner pulley.

I actually have a worn bearing noise along with the squealing....I think the fan clutch on the crank is shot, I can shoot that with some lube while it's running and it will go away....Chris might be something to look at ...cause mine does the same thing.....drive's me nuts.

on my 01 3.0, replacing the tensioner fixed the squeak. I could watch the belt, see it try to walk off the idler, then jump back with a squeak. I guess the tensioner was worn, not keeping things all lined up. I read here about how the tensioner was a common problem, so did that, blissful squeaklessness since (for now)

Mine used to squeak. I lightly sanded the tensioner and idler pulleys, just enough to break the glaze and put a Gatorback belt on and haven't had a problem in over 2 years now.

I have to agree with the Gatorback belt. It took care of my problem.

My new to me 04 3.o did the same thing, idler pully bearing bad, ension pulley bearing bad, belt looked ok.
I went to autozone and bought
2 203FF bearings (replaced ones in idler and tensioner) like $5 each or
pulleys ~$20 each
gatorback belt last digits are ... ... 895

No noise now,
Hope this helps

Dude is it me or does everybody that have a problem have the 3.0L because that what I got and it's sooo loud and there is just no way I'm goin' to live with that noise. There are some good posts, some which I have tried, I've tried a new belt, still a sweet squeal this weekend trying a new idler pully and if that doesn't work I'm goin' to look at the tensioner, I will keep you posted. Thanks for all the previous posts I knew I wasn't going crazy.
