Belt Tensioner - Won't Tighten Enough"

2000 Ranger...I pulled the tensioner spring assembly and pully during the rebuild. Now I can only get a weak tension load or about 3/4" to 1" belt deflection. How can I reset it. It does flex or compress the flat spring coil when I wrench on the the lower pully and takes some effort to get the belt on? Just does not seem very taunt. Any thoughts? Trying to get the truck running tonight as I returned the rental car....THANKS!!!!

P.S.I can shoot a photo if it would help

There is an alignment tab on the back. Make sure it is in the proper location.

I'll check it. I saw it but it looked as though when aligned it would losen further. I'll check again. Thanks for the quick reply.

and if you purchased a new belt... go return it and ask for the 03+ belt.
For whatever reason the part numbers are all messed up. don't be like me and have to go threw a ton of trouble with the entire belt system just to find out it was the wrong size belt. haha

Tab is crushed to the side

Just got back from Autozone with a new tensioner. Looks kind of cheap compared to the Ford Part. Missed the post re '03 versions. Can I still use the "listed" '00 part from Autozone?

Also I don't see an icon for attaching photos to threads. Though I'd post the damaged unit in case anybody else has a similar repair.

If the new one doesn't work, take it back and get a shorter belt. My Gatorback is a little smaller than my last one, which is odd because the last one was fine with my DZK pulley.
