Blown head gasket 2001 edge. best options??????
Hello all,
I have a 2001 Edge ranger that I blew the head gasket on about a month ago. I am bummed about it. I love the truck! But I have to now decided is it better to just junk it, put it up for sale as is, or try and buy a new motor for it and replace it. The mechanic who checked it out for me said replacing the gasket would be a big gamble from what they saw. It only has about 140,000 miles, never been wrecked, and the only other thing ever wrong with it before this was I had to replace the fuel filter & pump. I'm not mechanically inclined enough to do any of it my self so looking for opinions about the best options.
If I got a new engine, what would be a rough cost for the engine and also how much to install it?
How much would it be worth to sell it for parts?
What would be the chance of finding an engine at a junk yard?
Any opinions or info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

A good mechanic can tell you for sure whether or not your head gasket is blown. If so I would not expect it to cause other problems. If you are not sure if the head gasket is the problem you need a better mechanic. I would definitely recommend a second opinion. Replacing a head gasket should be much cheaper than installing another engine, that may be worse than yours. I would only fix what is broken and avoid the "might as well"s.
