something got me thinking on every vehicle i ever owned ive noticed a decent size difference in power when the a/c is on/off

just wondering if im the only person that notices that type of thing


on a completely different note it seems like my truck might be leaking a little oil from or around the oil pan area

 

I run my A/C on my 3.0 all the time, and have never really noticed a difference with it on.

 

on my 2.5 its the difference between stalling out and making it out of 1st when im shifting really lightly... after driing my truck for so long i know exactly how much gas i need to get out of first and when i turn the air on if i give it the same amount it will stall.. of course i dont stall :P i save it but ya with the ac on i lose about 20 hp and with a 120hp engine that's a shi ton. But in my moms Lexus her 5.3 L v8 doesn't even feel the ac.

 

Yeah, well it's not enough of a power loss to not want to use it. I use my A/C about 11 months of the year. And I have that same oil pan leak. I used to always tell myself it was the oil filter but it wasn't. But it still hasn't gotten bad enough to want to bother with yet.

 

I'll notice it going up a hill if I'm trying to accelerate without much speed or momentum.

 

Ya, I notice it on my 2.5L alot. If I got to really get out in traffic, I have to turn it off.

 

dont notice a thing in my 4.0 SOHC.. other vehicle i have noticed.

 

Never even thought of it and my air was out half the summer and when i got it back i didnt notice any difference.

 

ive got gooood ac i just never use it even tho i live in florida...

 

ya i never use mine aint a thing wrong with it but down here in florida i love to ride round windows down and cursing old ppl who cant drive lol

 

The PCM does it automatically for you, the AC compressor will be shut off at WOT.

 

Most people don't drive around in traffic at wide open throttle....

Tell me about it. Turning it off for me is like turning on warp-speed.

 

At my old job, they had these two Ford Escort piece of crap cars. They were so beat and under powered, you would have to shut the AC off at red lights or the car would stall when you tried to get going.

 

He originally said "getting out in traffic", like he was getting onto a freeway, where he needed more power. In this case, WOT would cut his AC compressor off, without him having to shut it off manually.

 

My 93 had a four-banger and was like that, it sucked having to shut the ac off to get going. Haven't had that problem in my 99 though

 

If it's stalling with your AC on, I would say your IAC valve isn't properly working.

 

yeah that sounds about right

 

I notice it waiting at stop lights when I have my foot lightly on the brake, when the compressor shuts of the truck starts to move forward so it definitely draws some power.
