Can I use the FL 1a oil filter on my 3.0

Can I use the FL-1A which is a longer oil filter on my 2004 3.0 Ranger? The reason I' m asking, it is removable from over the fender, rather than from underneath the truck and less oil spillage. Thanks

i don't think so bob. I think the threads are different on the 1A vs the 400s

I just compared the 2, the threads look to be very close but the actual mating surfaces are different. so it might work if it will fit in there

I'm planning on changing my oil this weekend, and can see if the FL-400S from my Ranger will fit the 460 in my shop that takes an FL-1A. If it's backwards compatible that way, then it should work. My thinking is that the o-ring diameter is different and that's what will keep it from working.

Thanks for your reply. I believe I can reach 400s with the right filter wrench from over the fender, when I tried changing it from the bottom I spilled oil everywhere.Damn!

I change mine through the fender, but I also have a body lift. I remember it not being easy when the truck was stock.
