EGR, deals with oxygen and and emissions. Its pretty much like a vacuum leak, I have the same problem with my 2.5L. here is a picture of mine.

It depends, make sure that all the bolts are intact and tightened. It goes down near the manifold and the exhaust pipe so make sure thats good OR if it was like me, I had to replace the whole EGR pipe. First I welded it while I waited for the new one which held for about a week but I am still waiting for the pipe from ford.

AOh yeah, if anything is loose, you should tighten it up and than have your battery unhooked for 30+ plus so it resets the system and than if the light comes back on than best bet is to replace it. And if you have to get smogged and the EGR is giving problems, you won't ever pass.

It could be a few different things but the odds are 99% that it is a bad Differential Pressure Feedback EGR sensor, the sensor that measures the EGR flow rate. The DPFE sensors from that era are not very reliable and many end up getting replaced. Check your dealer because these are sometimes cheaper there than at an auto parts store. Approximate price for the part is $40~60 and they are usually not difficult to change yourself.

Your DPFE looks something like this. It may be metal or plastic.

^ my dad said that he thinks its that because he knows they need replacing after so many miles and he thinks that its more of a reminder to change it then the fact that its broken, so ill have to look into that to...

The light doesn't come on for time or miles. It comes on when the voltage that indicates flow rate cannot go high enough to match the EGR map in the PCM. That doesn't necessarily mean that the flow is actually too low - it just means that the voltage repesenting the flow is too low. That happens when the sensor goes bad and doesn't translate the flow rate to voltage correctly.
