Not necessarily a problem, per se, but a question of preference.

On july 1st, we're pulling a long road trip, and during that time it's going to get roughly 10 hours or more of constant highway, maybe a little city here and there as we pass through.

I want to dump some injector cleaner in the gas tank to burn during that time. I'm trying to decide between pourable seafoam or marvel mystery oil. I've used the spray seafoam in the past and that gave great results. I've never used a Marvel product before, though.

 

While working as a technician years ago at a Chevron Gas Station I used to add a full bottle of Chevron Techtron to a about a liter of fuel into a pressurized fuel injection cleaner rig disabled the vehicles fuel pump and run the vehicle off the pressurized Fuel Chevron Textron mix.

We would get before and after emissions readings and always have a significant improvement and desirable results from vehicles that actually only needed injector cleaning.

We used many other Chemicals and none that we tried worked as well. Yet Neither Seafoam or Marvel mystery oil was part of those test back then.

I have used both the the products you mentioned as preventive care not corrective.

Personally I think your truck will benefit the most from running it low on fuel then siphon and clean out the tank topping it off with fresh fuel and either of the chemicals you mention

I only suggest this if the tank has never been dropped and clean out since day one.

My truck is a 2002 and dropping plus cleaning the tank is high on the priority list

recently I changed the fuel filter the nasty fuel that came out of that filter is what is causing me to consider doing this service.

Plus it will give an opportunity to replace the in tank pump and sending unit.

 

I changed the fuel filter about..... three or four months ago. Nothing particularly nasty came out, but some dirty fuel did come out of the fuel filter itself as expected.

I never thought of dropping the tank and cleaning it out like that. My guess is the tank ha never been dropped in it's life time.

 

I run a can of Seafoam once a year in each fuel injected vehicle, actually notice a difference in idle, smoother, after 1/2-3/4 of that tank is gone.
Probably should do it every 6 months but............I am cheap, lol.

 

Seafoam is likely what I'll end up going with. I still want to try marvel one day though. I guess I like the name, lol.
