Depends on what you want, where you live, and what you have.

If you have a 5.30:1 4x4 on 44's and a supercharged 3.0L with headers, cherry bombs, no O2's or Cats and want a tune, I'll pass

If you are basically stock, it doesn't matter much at all. If you have a supercharger, Doug's the man (he tuned mine).

If you live at 5,000ft and run moonshine up a goat trail to 9,000ft, neither of us can help you, you need to find someone local that has a handle on the altitude issues.

Remember, as with any other mod, a tuner is best when the engine is in good condition, properly tuned and no leaks, codes or noises. A dirty MAF will really mess with a tune, as will bad O2's.

..and BTW, it's Rogue...

I originally had tunes from Doug at Bama. Very good for a generic performance tune. I then got in contact with Fred from Rogue and had him do a couple of custom tunes for me based on datalogging what MY truck was doing and how I drive, not just 3.0 liters in general. HUGE difference!

Can't really go wrong with either, but Fred is widely known for his expertise with the 3.0, and he's much easier to get ahold of. I'm extremely happy with his work!

I would choose Rogue for a couple reasons.

1. Who likes to get something right right away after they buy it? 90% of the time we are all checking our tracking numbers every hour. Well there is not much of a wait with Rogue. Bama we have seen instances where tuners get lost and people cant seem to get ahold of him for whatever reason.

2. Who doesnt like to buy from Wayne? He is an awesome seller, that deals just with rangers and is very active on this site. He is always on time and likes to give his customers updates.

3.I'm sure there is more but the top 2 reasons have already made me change my mind.

When I get my tuner, which hopefully is soon, but my chip is doing alright for now. I will be buying from Wayne the Rogue Tuner.

I couldn't get Bama to answer an email so that told me a lot. I went with Rogue.

x2 I sent Doug an email 8 days ago, no reply. I'll re-send it now. I already own the Bama though so I don't know if thats the reason...

Fred at Rogue has been an upfront honest guy with me. I highly recommend him. He could have sold me tunes I didn't need and I wouldn't have known the difference but he didn't.

From what I understand, Doug has branched out to include doing tunes for the Mustang crowd. It seems he's got himself spread too thin to be able to provide the customer support he needs.

That's to bad, customer support is #1 or he may find himself with a lot of extra time. Forums like these make successes out of companies and my guess is it can do the opposite. I've read the same things about bama on other forums. Not many out there tuning our trucks....we need them all to be around.

A dyno tune for $50.00? Where?
http://www.bamachips.com/store/index...0bbb0c69be5acd

There aren't many to get an email tune.

Im sorry I'm not too familiar with the rouge or the bama chip but are they like a handheld programmer? I was talking to a guy at a local performance shop today and he said he was putting a 302 in his 94 ranger that used to have a 3.0L in it. He said he would sell me the chip he had in it for $50 and apparently it just plugs into the back of the computer and stays there. Anyone know anything about these type of chips. I dont mean to hijack your thread

The tuners being discussed are xcal II tuners. They require obdII vehicles which are 1996 and newer if I'm not mistaken. In your case a chip is the only option.

Ok well my truck is a 1997 so in that case the chip wouldnt work then? My only choice would be to go with one of the xcal II tuners? Probably should have mentioned mine was a 97 in the first place..sorry

I'm sure they make one. The Xcal II is adjustable which is what makes them better. You can raise/lower the shift points, rev limiters, timing, fuel, etc.

While you can do this on your own, the tuners (the guys being discussed in this thread) do this work for you based on your needs for the truck.

As you add mods, you can change the tune to compliment the mod.
