Cold air intake mod (MAF not working)
I just put the intake on and put the MAF in pretty janky on the stock intake tube. Just wondering because I put everything on with trying to seal the MAF on but when I turned it on it was trying to find the right air fuel ratio and the rpms were going up and down. Pretty much after that happened I just put all the stock stuff back on and sealed the hole with tape for now. It runs great right now but for some reason the MAF **** it’s pants with the cold air intake on/ it went into a non stick hole. I just want to figure how to almost bypass it so it works.

First, ALL fuel injected Rangers came with a Cold Air Intake, so you are not helping things, if you install the new one perfectly you will break even, won't hurt engine power
The stock air filter box has a hose that pulls air from in front of the rad support, so Cold air intake
Yes, all air for the engine must pass thru the MAF sensor, it only samples 10% of the air so small differences matter because it effects computer Times 10
You also need to watch out for turbulence around MAF, that will cause false data
If you can "hear" air flow with the new intake on, that means there is turbulence, it you can't "hear" air flow that means no turbulence, or engine is off, lol
There is no reason you can't make your own intake and have MAF work just fine

Yeah you are right, mine is an 08. But I just found it it weird how I put all the stock components back on and it ran totally normal. I think when I cut the hole in the stock tube for the MAF I cut it too close like an inch or two away from the intake itself. I’m thinking if I extend the new intake cone it can fit inside of the air box then I will cut it so I still can have the stock fitting for the MAF kinda will act as a skeleton if that makes sense but I’m going to do a bit of trial and error before I cut anything again lol

I completely made my own intake, and while the aforementioned is true, the stock intake is technically sucking cold air, it is also just sucking... I was able to use the MAF in approx same location as you can see and now have also added a wet nos injector for the f of it.... I rewired the vacuum lines and the thermistor for the intake temp reading and it is running the exact same temp as with stock but now just breathes way better and really brought the whole sound up a notch. If you look close you can see where I just took a piece of intake tube and sleeved it into the maf and then i epoxied that piece in. with little work I can still break it apart and clean it up if i needed to reuse it... but I wont.
