Got a free running 93 3.0 manual. Engine leaking everywhere. Ram great, no smoke or anything. I tore it down to the short block and it looks great, a lil carbon, cleaned the carbon off the top of the cylinder walls with some fine scotchbright, Can’t feel anything with my fingernail anymore. I come from automotive background and still active in it, so I know about cars. My question is in your experiences, how often have you just got a new gasket kit, head bolts and sent it without getting the heads checked? I took the heads off in sequence and cleaned the cylinders with the block upside down with brake cleaner. I was just going to reseal it and put it back in, it’s not my daily driver and will rarely be driven. Thoughts?
That looks like a 1999 - 2008 3.0l Block, not a 1993
Have a look here to see if you can match it up, also heads, to the year group, it matters for parts: https://www.therangerstation.com/tec..._0-build.shtml
The recessed threads for the head bolts is what made me think of that, measure your old head bolts
4.5" is 1998 and earlier, NOT TTY
5.5" is 1999 and later are TTY
I would always have old heads cleaned, pressure tested and then surfaced, usually under $75 each, and also install new valve guide seals<<<<important
