Alright, here it goes. I know I need a new oil pan gasket and I know there is no easy way to do it. I also appear to need a new water pump and tranny pan gasket. I've been looking around and think that the pan just drops down for the transmission but was wondering if anyone else had done one themselves and could confirm it for me. Last is the water pump. It looks like an ugly job, but I don't have the $500 to throw at it so it looks like I'm doing it myself. Has anyone done a water pump on their truck themselves and is it as involved as I'm afraid it is? Thanks for any and all responses, I really appreciate it. Truck info is in the sig, and I do have A/C if that makes a difference for anyone

 

Well, since no one had a response, I ordered a water pump and am doing it on Saturday. Same with the tranny pan gasket. The tranny looks easy enough, but the water pump could get kind of involved. Once again, any pointers from anybody?

the tranny pan does just drop down, pretty easy there and to me, the water pump is easy to change just time consuming, once you get the fan and shroud out of the way then you have a lot more room and can see what you need to do a lot better. Take your time and you will be just fine with both.

Thanks for the responses. I figured it was just time consuming and luckily I have a Haynes manual that I can follow. Already got the parts now I just need the weekend to do it :)

 

the easiest way on a 4x4 ranger to do the oil pan gasket is to remove the front axle.

 

Well, I got lucky, in a manner of speaking. I took it in to get the oil pan gasket done and had him look over my work (water pump amd tranny pan gasket) All of that looked good but the timing chain cover gasket was shot. While he was in there he was able to hit the oil pan gasket up with some RTV sealant and get it back where it is supposed to be. May not be a long term fix but it bought me some time and it's not leaking oil anymore! WooHoo!
