Fuel rail questions

Background:
I have a 98 ranger that I did a motor swap in over to a 99 setup. The injectors on my 98 motor were green and the fuel rail had a vacuum line to the top of the FPR/FPD.. My 99 motor has grey injectors and the vacuum goes into the back of the FPR/FPD...

Questions:
1.) Is there a difference between the injectors?
2.) both fuel rails that i had only had one line feeding it. Did the fuel rail with a pressure Reg have a fuel return to it? If it doesn't then I'm still unsure if my fuel rail matches the fuel system I have... did my 98 have a FPR and the 99 has a FPD? would that cause it to pull a "rich" code?

Any help is appreciated. I have seen two pictures of the different fuel rails but I can't remember if I had the one with the removable reg. I'm afraid I MIGHT of replaced a rail with a reg on it to a rail with the dampener and that may be why I'm getting a rich code

98+ Ranger has the Fuel Pressure Damper on the rail and the Fuel Pressure Regulator in the tank. There is no return line for 98 and later.

You MAY be running into the injector and rail differences because Ford made the 3.0 in both conventional and Flex Fuel Vehicle versions. The FFV used higher flow rate injectors, a lower pressure pump, a fuel composition sensor and a different PCM calibration. The fuel systems in both types were Mechanical Returnless as described above.

To avoid the mismatch, can you simply use your original rails and injectors on the replacement engine?

Ahhhhhh.... The injectors! No I wish I could, they got junked with the old motor. Hmmm so all I need to do is buy and swap the injectors?

I can't say that for sure. It's only a possible explanation.

Bob is right that's your problem. I have done a lot of 98-00 motor swaps and have swapped the injectors and rails to solve the engine code. I have spare 3.0 injectors and rails but I'll have to make sure I have green ones. The color difference is not year, its flex fuel and gas motors.

Guys I cannot explain how much of a headache this has been for the past 7 months... I posted this up on the ranger station and NOT ONE person has yet to help or chime in. Thank you. I ordered a set of injectors through ford Per my vin code (since I kept the same ECU)

I have injectors from my 03, but the fuel rail has crud and rust in it.. can I just a single cross over rail that the taurus has instead of the dual ranger type?
