Gas cap not clicking
Gas cap not clicking
i have 2002 ford ranger edge v6 3.0 and ive been through 3 oem gas caps that dont click when tightening, rather they just snap on when turned right. I'm assuming the no click is not good sense it needs to click for perfect pressure and for vapors not to leak. I have p0457 code. I'm thinking filler housing has something blocking it from click tightening. please help me.
No, the gas cap has a ratchet mechanism inside it so you can't over tighten it and deform the rubber seal on the bottom of the cap
The clicking is the ratchet working, so not sure why 3 caps wouldn't do that
The filler wouldn't cause cap to not to click unless cap never got tight, i.e. just kept turning when tightening so ratchet never needed to click
EVAP codes for gross leaks can be gas cap failure or filler hose being cracked, so gas tank is no longer air tight

Yea im in florida no inspection. But I just wanna make sure its fixed if it needs to be. But I wanna make sure theres no fumes leaking. I got about 54 miles in 1 quarter tank. Is that normal? seems like **** to me
Gas gauges are not linear, so 1/4 tank on gauge doesn't mean 5gal were used(20gal tank), you need miles traveled and then gallons it took to refill to full
A gas gauge that uses a float at the end of an arm will drop slower from full to 3/4 and then from 1/4 to empty, but drops faster between 3/4 and 1/4, so not linear
As for the codes
Do you ever smell gasoline smell during or after fill ups?

I don't recall but i may see when i put some in. Also I found a new problem on a different matter. My belt has been squeaking lately and i get a burning smell from my truck within 5 min of me driving it. Bad belt?
Loosen belt and remove from pulleys
Spin alternator see if makes a noise or is wobbly
Also spin the idler pulley and AC pulley if so equipped
Can't spin power steering or crank
If pulleys all spin OK then get a new belt

I have a pulley misalignment but its not too bad. I could probably just buy a non squeak belt and be fine. I have no idea how to change a belt. Anyway you could tell me how and the tools needed? I have v6 3.0
