Whats up guys. I have a 2002 Ranger Edge extracab 3.0 manual (stock)
and wanted to know how to squeeze out the most miles per gallon!
So far i have been shifting around 3000-3200rpm and only keeping the rpms around 3000-3200 on the freeway going about 70.
Is there any better method you guys have found? thanks for the help!

intake, exhaust, tuner, underdog pulleys, synthetic fluids, under 70 driving, depending on your rear ratio & tire size...shifting at 2500 shouldnt be a problem. Theres probably more. Try out Lucas Oil Fuel treatment for a few tanks....it cleaned out my injectors, and made my 16mpg truck into a 19mpg truck.

 

Are you talking w/ mods or without? And how many miles do you have?
If you have over 50,000 mi., I would say run some seafoam (search for seafoam) and then change your spark plugs, that made a huge difference for mine at 60,000 mi. I'm probably going to do it again before 80g mi. Then of course keep on top of that tire pressure and so on, go to jiffylube.com for some basics on keeping your car in tip top shape and getting the best mileage you can. (not advertising for jiffy lube though!)
Modifications wise, I'll tell you what. I started off with 14 mpg city/19 hwy when I got my truck at 40g mi. I've bought a $70 raised air intake (you could go mac or cosmo racing), an underdrive crank pulley for $100, an electric fan for $150, and a flowmater cat back exhaust (custom from shop, dumped) installed for $165. Two fridays ago, on a trip to Houston and back, I got 26 mpg overall- going over 80 mph the whole hwy trip! And I was goosing around SE Houston, I had my girl with me, she never gets to go offroad in a truck =) So your motor can get mad mileage, just please stay away from big tires and wheels, they look and feel amazing but will kill your mileage. Well, with my truck they do.
And that's it. ***Please stay away from ebay stuff when buying motor parts. Or ask us first. Only shop ebay for headlights and exterior work stuff, not a good idea for your motor

I just hit 23.4 mpg the last fill up, granted i didnt run my tank dry, filled up with a quarter of a tank left...I normally hit about 21, but that week i was doing a ton of highway.

You can check my sig to see what i have. But its pretty much what everyone else is listing.

 

I get a constant 23. Look at my sig for what I've done.

 

I get an average of 17 to 19 mpg. When I keep it under 70 on the x-way I get around 21. Mine is stock and I have normal tire size as of now. I do have a topper though and mine is a 4x4. So mainly I just take it a little slower on the freeway when I can and not dog it.

doesn't help being from san diego...75% of are freeways are uphill

 

I shift mine in the 2600-2800 range.

I just got 22.83 mpg with just a spintech pro street, 35psi in all tires, and synthetic fluid in the motor and trans. Probably half and half freeway/city

02 edge standard cab, 5 speed. 36,700 miles . . .

 

You could shift at a lot low rpm, and accelarate slower, I started doin that with my o3 ranger edge and I am getting like 22 in town, you may make people mad by driving slow but hey your getting good mileage.

 

I run an average of 1500 miles per week on my 03 2wd ex cab with a 3.0.The only mod has been an e-fan which has gained me 1 to 1.5 mpg.
I run interstate highways mostly and found the biggest mpg gain is the sustained speed that I run.
At 70 - 75 average is 24.6 mpg.
At 60 - 65 average is 27.4 mpg.
This has been consistent for the last year and a half.I'm still running the stock Goodyear tires that came on it using 35 psi all around with 84k on them now.
