Gibson Exhaust

I have a 2002 3L V6 I went to the local shop and they recommended puttin on a Gibson for my truck. Anyone have any feedback about a gibson on a Ranger? And any difference between a dual or single outlet? Thanks

I just installed a gibson extreme duals exhaust on my truck and I love it. It's not as loud as a flowmaster, but it's louder than stock. You can definately notice that it's there, just not incredibly loud.

My last truck was a 3.0l and I loved the Gibson I had on it. It was the stainless steel single. Awesome sound.

Well, I did the research, a LOT of it, on the internet 2 years ago, before buying a Gibson single pipe sweptside. All the popular brands have a high flow rate. As a matter of fact, Gibson is generally thought to be one of the best for adding hp, tho on the Ranger 3.0 liter it only adds an hp or two. I've had my aluminized steel Gibson for almost 2 years. Its one of the least noisy brands, which is one reason why I got it, but has a nice, fairly low, sound. Gets louder the more you get on the gas pedal, especially at and above 3,000 rpm. The steel is real thick -- this is a rugged system. I'm real pleased with mine.

I have a Gibson stainless steel sweptside and I love it. As everybody else says, its not as loud as a flowmaster, but there's definitely a nicer growl over stock. When I had it next to Joe's same exhaust, only carbon steel, there was definitely a deeper sound in mine. So I'd say spend the extra bucks and go for stainless, its worth it.

All the data I have seen shows that while Gibson does not have the best flow rate of all the after market systems, it is better than Flowmaster. Flowmaster is among the lowest in flow rate among the after market exhaust systems.

Flow rate is not the only thing that is important in an exhaust system especially in street engines. As was mentioned earlier, no exhaust system is going to gain much power for you over the stock exhaust system. My advice is look for a system that gives you the sound you like and don't expect a big change in power or gas mileage.

The 3.0l will only gain 1 or 2 horsepower, no matter what exhaust you put on it. Maybe 3 or 4 tops. You'll only get more than that if you're heavily modded elsewhere.

I've heard many claims that Gibson doesn't flow the best, but the 3.0l isn't exactly needing wide open exhaust. Some backpressure is needed for low end torque. Not enough and you may gain high RPM Horsepower, but you'll have a weaker bottem end. Again, see my first paragraph, were still talking small single digits in gains.

if you dont want a loud exhaust Gibson is a good exhaust to go with... but if you're like me and want a nice louder sound then i suggest the flow original 40, and damn does it sound great(well for a 3.0 atleast )
