Watts is a unit of power (rate of change of energy). If it helps, 1 watt = 1 joule per second. this doesn't just include electrical power. (ask your canadian buddies about the power of their ranger's engine...it'll be in kw).

Well, the rest of the world uses kilowatts to measure the power of engines, not just the canadians. It is the metric system (...what we should be using in the states).
