Bought an 02 Ranger for really cheap because it need an engine. I found one close by for 400 bucks but all i have is a pic the guy sent me. He says it came out of a ranger, but research iv done makes me think its out of a taurus. I know id have to change the head gaskets and all that. Im trying to figure out weather its a vulcan (like mine, 8th vin is a U) or a duratec. Before i drive 2 hours can anyone maybe help me out? Sorry this one pic is all i have.

 

I'm no expert, but pretty sure your 02' would have a cam synchronizer instead of a distributor in the picture.

 

Yes that is a 3.0l Vulcan but from a 1991-1994 Ranger, they had distributors, 1995-2008 were distributorless and as said above, use a Cam Syncro with cam sensor in place of the distributor

And it could very well be from a Taurus or Sable, they used the 3.0l Vulcan with distributor from 1986 to 1994
And I would say it IS from taurus/sable because of the orientation of intake manifold, its pointed to back of engine

But not a 3.0l Duratec, it never had a distributor and valve cover looks much different
