How to change rod bearings?

I’m guessing it’s generally the same as most v6 and v8 motors produced by ford, but I need to be 100% positive before I do so. 03 ranger edge with a 3.0 in it.

Do you plan on taking the engine out or doing it in place?

You're pretty much going to have to take the engine out.
Getting the pan off is nearly impossible with the engine in.

You can try it, but even if you do get the pan off, it's pretty tight to get at the rod bearings.

I have to ask, what happened that you need to replace the rod bearings, if it was starved for oil and/or over heated, chances are that the bearings surfaces are toast if the bearings need replacing ?
Same goes for the main bearings.

My father already had taken the pan loose from when he first started working on it. Nowadays he’s getting old so he passed the truck on to me. The oil ended up being way past due for a change.

I hope it works out.
Some models the front cross member between the frame can be removed, that's where the clearance issue happens.
The pan has to move back and drop to clear the splash baffle inside the pan from the oil pump.
The pan can't move back because the trans is in the way.

Even if the engine was lifted of it's mounts to the point where it can't be lifted any more (the engine is hard up against the body), the above problems will be there to deal with.
Sorry to be a wet blanket, but I went through all of this before.

I'd probably pull the engine, seems much easier that way. Rent or buy an engine stand so you can rotate it around. Vids I've seen they rub this lil past strip in the grooves to measure clearances and put bearings in place. And torque down to speck. My uncle made an engine hoist out of lumber made a couple A-frames outa 2x4s with a cross member like a swing set and had a come along wench attached to it. Pulled the 5.0 out no problem. Then he rebuilt it on our picnic table, lol.
