LOL thanks Tyler! It looks like hell close up though It's all scratched up real bad. But she runs like a champ!

And Justin, they are great motors but yes they could use more power haha. They are just meant to be economical. But if you want to, these motors can be pretty mean!

Dude this thing was beat all to hell when I got it right at 229K the oil was watery brown and looked to have like 20K miles on it. It had not been taken care of at all. Day after I bought it I changed the oil and filter with Mobil1 5K mile formula and a Motorcraft filter and that's all I have done to it so far lol. Runs great!

Sorry lol. Sounds like you just got a bad one man. These things are nothing short of bullitproof though I know that for sure. Had 3 of them since 2000 and not a problem with any of them.

I think it was just a bad one. I think it was the Cam Positioning Sensor. I just lost oil pressure and it locked up the crank wouldn't even budge. My new engine has 70K miles on it now.

Yep sounds about right. My 97 had 125K when i sold it with no problems. My 2000 I have had since new and have beat the living **** out of it and it has 92K with no problems and my 99 has 231,113 and no problems so I dunno. It does scare me to a certain extent though hearing about many of them having problems. Makes me wonder how far away from home I would be willing to drive mine haha. I am thinking about getting an aftermarket oil pressure gauge that measures REAL TIME oil pressure and not a dummy gauge that just drops to nothing when its too late and the engine seize's up.

Your truck looks great! I'm following close behind ya as I'm at 184 K and closing in on 200K. I just hope it makes it! I take care of it with 3K oil changes, Havoline oil and Motorcraft oil filter. Runs like a champ. Gotta love a 3.0.

3.0 = gas mileage (well better than some) and 3.0 = won't die (most of the time) and also 3.0 = low maintenance cost (again most of the time)

Exactly. I have two 3.0's and I get great gas mileage, my 2000 with 92K miles that has been raced and beat to death has never had a thing done to it other than a serpentine belt, air filters, and oil changes and gets 24=25mpg and my 99 with 231K runs just as good as my 00 with 92K and even with 231K and being a supercab 4wd, my best tank in it was 24.5mpg! 435 miles on 17.7 gallons of gas Just because it's not fast doesn't mean it's not good. I wish people would just grow up and quit talking crap about a solid built motor just because it's not full of power.

Jwad00,
I agree. I have pulled a travel trailer for a good few thousand miles and the 3.0 has been fine. it is a perfectly good motor for getting around town or traveling around the country. Once I did the maintenance on it it had way more power than I thought possible. It is better at 149k than at 66k when I got it. I don't see what the complaints are about, any more. Prior to the maintenance it was kind of a dog.

That it is. It's not made to be fast. It's only supposed to have a little extra umph than the 4 bangers and still get decent gas mileage. It's the perfect combo and it is a very reliable engine at that. I know of guys around here and RPS that have over 300K miles on their 3.0 and I have heard of MANY that have over 200K Fact is they are made for the purpose of having enough power to get the job done and still being economical and they are just that. I am very happy with my 3.0 Having an 04 with the SOHC 4.0L and a 5 speed manual and 2wd with 16K miles on it I got a consistant 19mpg (I drive like an old man) compared to my 99 with 231K and 4wd on top of that I am averaging a very consistant 22-23 with 24.5 as my best and 22.3 as my worst. To me that is VERY good.
