yea, I was just pointing out all the variables when comparing mpg.
the only way to get a "true comparison" would be to have several rangers of various bodystyles do the exact same trip, with gas from the same station.

the greatest increase in mpg I ever saw was when I put a fiberglass tonneu cover on my ranger.
when I lived in Naples, fl, and would take a trip to miami int airport
before the tonneu it would take me about 3/4's a tank of gas just to get there.
after the tonneu, it would take me less than 1/2 tank for the same trip. (I could actually make the entire trip with 1 tank of gas if I was feeling risky and driving conservatively)

Wow, that is huge. I have tried experiments with a cap, without a cap with tailgate up, down, and off on an F150, a Toyota, and my Ranger. I never even saw a 5% difference and in the Ranger I got the best MPG with no cap and tailgate up. I know that isn't supposed to be but oh well.

I had a hard time believing it either, so I tested it a couple of times.
without a doubt, if I take off the cap, my mpg drops considerably.

I bought my wife a moped a few yrs ago in Ft lauderdale, and of course I had to take my tonneu off to pick it up. and it took between 1/2 and 3/4's a tank just to get there, but we're talking about 1/3 less distance than MIA.
then another time I picked up a friend who came into the lauderdale airport, with the tonneu on I made the entire trip on 1 tank of gas. lauderdale airport is about 1/3 closer than miami's.

Your engine should get better mileage in warm weather. Warm air helps atomize the fuel making for a more consistent air/fuel ratio.

My best mileage was driving to Pembrook which was about a 6-7 hour drive for me. I took a few stops, but I also wasn't driving the speed limit. I was doing 110-130KPH... Its a hilly area so there was lots of down shifting.

I'm not really sure, maybe its just driving style plain and simple. I used to try different gas stations and I've found I get better mileage at one then others. I believe its because the others use Ethanol in their gas and the other one doesn't. I used to calculate my mileage religiously, but now I find no point. My tanks are all within about 20-25Kms of each other.

Maybe some 3.0Ls just weren't born to get better mileage.

People complain about something all the time.
I came from a near 300 HP 3.73 geared mustang and really the difference ain't all as bad as I expected.

I'd say its about right too. Driving habits may improve it some, unless you already drive well for MPG.

It is a little better than mine but my highway is 20 at best. I got 21 or 22 once or twice. Though i am probably contradicting myself somewhere on here.
