idle cycles high to low w/ air conditioner on!

Hey everyone,...This has been getting on my nerves and I don't remember the truck doing this last summer,....anyone else experience this problem? It's a 99 3.0 4X4, and other than the air seeming like it needs the refrigerant recharged,....when the air is going, the idle cycles up/down, up, down, till I set the heater control to straight up (off) . Then the engine idles normally....any help would be appreciated... Thanks, Joe

Joe, If your A/C is cycling on and off quickly it more than likely is low on freon. This will cause the idle to very trying to keep up with the load.

You can pick up a can of 134a with charging hose at Kragen or Autozone for about 15-20 dollars.
