Intermittent Start

So over the last 8-10 months I've had an issue where when I start the engine it will run rough and sputter. When this happens I shut if off and restart it and it runs fines. This might happen 1 in every 100 starts. Very infrequent.

Today I drove to work with no problems. Went to leave and when I started the engine it sputtered for a second and died. Then it wouldn't restart at all. It would turn over fine, but not even a sputter. Caught a ride home and when the wife got home I grabbed some tools and headed back to the truck. Jumped in the truck and it fired right up, what the heck?!?! Drove it home no problems at all. No CEL or other indications of a problem. Restarted it several times with no issues. Now I can't trust the truck to drive me anywhere. When I bought it about 2 1/1 years ago I replaced the coil, fuel filter, plugs and plug wires.

So what do you think? Fuel pump? Crank sensor? Something else?

Edit: I also replaced the MAF about 8 months ago.

Yes, reads like fuel pump is becoming intermittent.

Electric motors once started will continue to run fine, starting an electric motor is when they can fail

When you turn on the key you can HEAR the fuel pump motor run for 2 seconds, and only 2 seconds, but it does this every time key is turned from off to on

So while the truck is starting, listen for the pump, its not quiet, a HUMMMM you can hear in the cab, turn radio down, lol
Once you know what to listen for you can confirm No Start and No sound from fuel pump occur together

Fuel system should hold pressure after engine is off, so if pump doesn't come on engine can start but stumble because of the low pressure, restarting, key off key on, can get fuel pump working again.

You could replace the Fuel Pump Relay in the engine fuse box, not expensive, but also less likely to fail like this, but it can, so.....................cheap "fix" if it works

I'll try the relay RonD. Cheap enough to start with. It would be awesome if it's that simple.

Thanks for the help!
