"Lightning" style exhaust on a standard cab?

I went to a local muffler shop today and got a price on a flowmaster 40 series, "Lightning" style exhaust. I have seen a few trucks on here with that set-up. I want to know if any of you guys w/that set-up or know someone with this set-up, have problems with it being too loud. The last thing I want to do is get an exhaust and can't hear myself think while driving down the road. The guy said he would cut right past the cat so he could mount the muffler farther up so he could make the 45 degree angle. Out the door, it would be $170-$180 depending if I went with chrome tips.

That was my main concern. I love the way the exhaust looks, but I don't want something that will give me a headache either. I would like to run it through the body, but it seems that the pipes would get too hot for the fiberglass bed.

One more thing. I did the airbox mod and when I step on it, the engine is louder. Would this add to the noise in the cab along with the exhaust exiting out the side like that. From what everyone says, the flowmasters are a little louder.

If you want something that sounds beefy when you step on it but not loud at cruising speeds get the magnaflow and then do the lightning style setup. that would solve your possible headaches

That's a nice setup. Is it going to be louder with a standard cab?? This exhaust is basically going to be right behind the pass. seat on mine because of the cab. I would go with magnaflow, but it's a little more on the $$side and flowmaster is in my $$range. My VA disability from the military and social security only goes so far. That's a big reason why there are more mods that iI would like to do rather than mods that I've done or can do. I already have constant humming in my ears and don't want to deal with any deafening exhaust, lol!

i dont think its that loud... it def isnt like a v8 or anything. you can hear it across the parking lot..

on highway travel with the windows up, and with music playing you cant hear it at all

Thanks, I think it would sound about the same in a 3.0 vs 4.0. I'll probably put it on my list of things to do next. If I'm doing an exhaust, I'd rather have this kind of setup. I guess the big thing is just getting used to the new sound since it's been stock sinse '02. I'm wanting to get a 10" sub and put in my truck so........

Nice, went and got my exhaust priced from this place I deliver parts to for my job. They told me total it was $269.19.. then if I wanted a nice chrome tips they would be extra, the twin tip that I liked was $100, that soulds like to much $$$ if you ask me but I guess thats what you have to pay to get this custom..

haha i did the same thing to mine, but im about to take the muffler from the cobra off and put my flowmaster si/do on it and reuse the cobra tips.
it has a nice mellow tone right now but i think all the baffles are rotted out on the inside.
