Turner Specs?

Alright the question of the year, asked by many, so sorry for the repeat but I have read many threads, but no solid answer. Alright with the rising gas prices, I'm trying to achieve the best gas mileage possible, like everyone is these days. so the next thing I see as a big help in this situation is to purchase a tuner to match my specs and etc. I see that everyone has been purchasing the xcal2, and I read nothing but great responses. But what does it actually do, I looking for some numbers, and comparisons before and after purchasing this tuner. Please help me out, and hopefully this will answer everybody concerns with these tuners, thanks

I don't know if anyone has ever posted before and after specs but what it does is changes some timing and fuel curves and such to produce the most power. I remember reading on here that some guy ran the 89 performance tune and not only got more power but picked up I believe 2 more MPG.

I know I have read some post as well but I feel I'm still way out in left field on this whole topic. I just wanna learn more on this type of mod and what it actually does.

I think Fred (the guy that writes the tunes) posted some dyno sheets with the tuner and different tunes and stuff. You can PM him for more info on it, I think his sn is Fredness.

The only downfall to the tuners is that you have to purchase a more expensive flavor of gasoline many times.

But since 89 is only ten cents more around here, if you can provide me with a 10% increase in mileage (2mpg better) it is worth it (basically saving $0.30 per gallon).

I have the X-Cal2 for my 3.0L. It came with the 87, 89, and 91 performance tunes. I can feel a difference with acceleration, but I saw no increase in mpg. It is still I good deal because I didn't lose anything and I gained some HP (maybe 4, haha). The tuner also allows you to download codes, erase codes, and fix speedo problems (only for '01 and up).
