`98 4x2 trany compatibility? (2.5L to 3.0L)

Hi,

Can anyone tell me what is different between the `98 step-bed (short) 2.5L 4x2 transmission vs the `98 regular bed 3.0L 4x2 transmission?

Everything I've found says both have the 4R44E, but the mechanic says they're not compatible because it's two different engines. What am I missing? Do I need a different wiring kit or some other adapter?

Thanks!

-Patty-

Thanks. You happen to know if the bellhousing can be transferred from the old trany, or if it's a solid unit? Otherwise, does anyone sell adapter plates for this trany? -Tks!

you can swap the bellhousing from the 2.5 trans to the 3.0 trans. make sure you use the 2.5 torque converter because it has a different stall speed than the 3.0 one does
