problems with water and idle

ok i just recently purchase a ford ranger edge 2003 4x4 5 speed only had 66k miles on it.

i had to replace the power train module on it witch wasnt cheap lol then 4 months later broke down wouldnt start well the fuel rail had gotten gunked up with rust or something like it. 2 weeks later had 4 gallons of water in the tank.

4 weeks later it started running rough then just die had a friend pick it up to take it to tow it to the shop it started right up and it set there for 2 weeks and they said they couldnt find anything wrong said it was running fine i picked it up and got half way home started running really rough around 2k rpm never died this time but since the it idle like crap and as long as i run 2.5k rpm it seems like no problems but when it drops down again to idle it just runs like its missing on all cylinders.

anyone know anything to check or any ideas plz help im not real repair savy so you'll have to dumb it down a bit for me if you dont mind any help is appreciated.

thanks again ahead of time
