New Lifters Without Cam Replacement

Hello Ranger Forum,

Model: 2004 Mazda B3000 DS 3.0L

While replacing the cylinder heads, I was also planning on replacing the lifters since the lower manifold is already off.

The lifter replacement looks pretty straight forward. But, I was reading the Chilton manual and it says if installing new lifters to also install a new Cam, ugh.

I was thinking, what if I had one bad lifter and just replaced that one without replacing the Cam. This seems like it would be a common scenario.

So, maybe I'm ok with replacing all the lifters and not replacing the Cam?

Feedback always appreciated.

You don't need to replace the cam when replacing the lifters

Even more so when they are roller lifters. Don't have to replace the cam.
The Chilton manual has old misinformation from the old days when the cam and the lifter wore together when there were no rollers.

Perfect, thank you Jeff. Leaving the Cam alone makes this task a lot simpler.
